The Role of Science

Finishing chapter 16 of the End of Povery now.
Great comments on the role of scient to propelling societal development.
It reminds me of the China CEO stories specifically around innovation. Should include those.
It also talks about globalization, how the concept becomes more populous and pragmatic since Adam Smith.

Deep Need

Listening to chaper 10 of The End of Poverty.
The author briefly talked about the "deep need" of Philanthropy.
Being an Economist, not a Psychologiest, of course he was not able to elaborate on it.
But it reminds me of the "Social Responsibility" competency identified in the China CEO study. Our data and our understanding of human motivation, especially the high need for power, would make a strong and insteresting point.

Anecdotal Data

Had lunch with Signe.
Of course re-discussed The China CEO Study.
Told her the story of Huang, in relation to findings on Social Responsibility:
After persistant persuasion, Huang agreed to participate in the study.
But we only got to collect data from his top team, before he cancelled the face to face interview, forever.
He was arrested 2 years later, amounting to one of the largest cases.
Can I speculate that the withdrawl was an indication of his business misconduct he was trying to hide from publicity?
To certain extent, it validates our findings.

Research Fund

1st proposal for research funding got approved. Despite the tiny tiny amount, feel emornous pressure: what if I do not make any progress on the research?!
